Today will witness the 115th meeting of Oregon Ducks and the Washington Huskies on the football gridiron. This rivalry is near and dear to the hosts of this blog, who between them share a significant number of graduate and undergraduate degrees from either institution. The founding of LGM coincided with the longest period of sustained Oregon success in the rivalry, twelve consecutive victories beginning in October 2004. The series has evened out as of late, with the Ducks and Huskies going 3-3 in the last six games, the last four of which have been relatively close contests.

This game is particularly important for two reasons. First, it is the final game that the Ducks and Huskies will play under the auspices of the Pac-12. The rivalry will continue as both teams join the Big Ten, but of course the dynamics of playing in that much larger conference will be considerably less intimate that the Pac-12 and its antecedents. Second, it is the first game in the series in which both Oregon and Washington are undefeated and ranked in the top ten nationally. Oregon QB Bo Nix and Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. are both regarded as top Heisman Trophy candidates.

In other words, it’s kind of a big deal. This shall constitute an open thread for the Oregon-Washington game and for all other college football happenings of the day. I wish to make it abundantly clear that normal Farley Thread rules are suspended for this post. There is a Gaza post right below this one for those interested in continuing that conversation. This is a post about football, and I will deploy all of the mercy to disturbers of the peace of this post for which Loomis is justly renowned.
