1, 2, fuck you
I will always believe that the only reason Jack Smith didn’t request a January 6 trial date is because it will fall on a Saturday. US News & World Report reports:
Special counsel Jack Smith’s office proposed that the trial begin on Jan. 2, 2024, estimating that it will take “no longer than four to six weeks” for the government to present its case. The trial date would mean Trump would be in the courtroom as the nation marks three years since the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection that he stands charged with fomenting as well as on Jan. 15, the date of the first GOP presidential nominating contest, the Iowa caucuses.
[…]
The government argued that its proposed timeline would give Trump’s lawyers time to review the evidence and form its defense, which Trump’s team has called into question. But, “most importantly,” assistant special counsel Molly Gaston wrote in the filing, the timeline “would vindicate the public’s strong interest in a speedy trial,” which she said is of “particular significance” because “the defendant, a former president, is charged with conspiring to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election, obstruct the certification of the election results, and discount citizens’ legitimate votes.”
Of course the defendant will try to stall its way out of trouble, but that sort of malarkey is easier when the judge wants to do you a favor. Judge Tanya Chutkan is not that judge.
In other indictment news, a company owned by an ambulatory mound of Miracle Whip tried to help an ambulatory mound of orange marmalade and wound up with a $350,000 fine.
Special counsel Jack Smith obtained a search warrant for records and data from former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account earlier this year, newly revealed court documents show.
The existence of the search warrant was confirmed in a Wednesday order from a three-judge panel with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, which upheld a $350,000 fine against Twitter imposed by a judge in D.C. District Court that found the company in contempt for initially failing to comply with Smith’s warrant.
I don’t think that is going to hasten tRump’s return to Xitter. A true supporter would have been willing to pay millions to protect him. And make a donation or three to his campaign. Neither will it endear Slum Knoe to his rabid fans.
So many injuries to root for, not enough pom-poms.
