The Greatest Last Paragraph in Literature

I just finished re-reading Philip Roth’s Sabbath’s Theater. It’s a misogynist book, there’s no question about it, but it’s also a funny book and a great character, though you certainly would not want to know him. I can’t blame anyone for not wanting to deal with Roth’s sexual hangups, but I will say this…the last paragraph of this book is not only my favorite in all of literature, but is also an excellent inspiration to keep living in this hellish world.

Seems like a good moment for an open thread of favorite book endings and the like. But to be clear, this is an open thread about art, not about politics. None of that shit.
