Remember when all those Very Serious and Savvy Journalists were insisting that DeSantis’s Covid vaccination policy deserved to be treated with respect, because after all there were Real Questions about this Very Complicated Issue?

This is the thing about trying to win the favor of Right Wing Crazy Town: You can’t really hope to do it unless you keep offering the residents stronger doses of hatred and paranoia and all around unhinged nuttiness. Sure, you can start off by citing the Great Barrington Declaration, but it won’t be too long before you’re embracing a complete loon like RFK Jr., for the same reason that there’s not much point in trying to sell Bud Light to heroin addicts.
But all this is a farcical waste of time. DeSantis can’t out-crazy Trump: he’s only succeeded in trashing whatever shred of dignity he retained before trying to do so.
No doubt a lot of people told him he would be better off staying on the sidelines, waiting for Trump to crash and burn next November, if that’s indeed what happens, but some men you just can’t reach, apparently.
