Rubber-stamping the disordered and unpopular: the Leonard Leo story
Elite Republicans being in all projection all the time mode isn’t news, but this is still a striking achievement in this category:
“ recent rash of Pro Publica stories … is bait for reeling in more dark money from woke billionaires who want to damage this… Court & make it into one that will disregard the law by rubber stamping their disordered and unpopular cultural preferences” – Leonard Leo, projecting pic.twitter.com/10Os88gNkw— Leah Litman – @leahlitman.bsky.social (@LeahLitman) June 21, 2023
“Reeling in more dark money from billionaires who want to make the Court into one that will disregard the law by rubber stamping their disordered and unpopular cultural preferences” is about as effectively as you can sum up Leonard Leo’s life work in one sentence. Dobbs, the biggest prize for reactionary dark money, is so intensely unpopular it’s having a major impact on American politics.
Speaking of Alito, Joan Biskupic’s new book about the Court reminds us that details about upcoming Supreme Coutr opinions keep ending up in the hands of the editorial board that gave Alito the space to publish his “My ‘There is nothing wrong with accepting undisclosed gifts from billionaires with business before the Court t-shirt raises many questions already answered by my shirt'” editorial:
Gee, I wonder which chambers the “mutual friends” were connected with? Could it even be the guy who angrily implied that he had found the real leaker of the Dobbs draft? Mysteries abound!
