E. Jean Carroll’s Victory
Looks like someone at Reuters had the sense to change the original piece of shit lede in its breaking news about the Carroll vs. Trump verdict.
Before:
NEW YORK, May 9 (Reuters) – Donald Trump sexually abused magazine writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s and then defamed her by branding her a liar, jurors decided on Tuesday, dealing the former U.S. president a legal setback as he campaigns to retake office in 2024.
One woman stood up to the President of the United States (and his extremely violent supporters), which was an amazing act in itself. And even better, she won. But let’s talk about what this verdict means to him. To. Hell. With. That.
After:
NEW YORK, May 9 (Reuters) – Donald Trump must pay $5 million in damages for sexually abusing magazine writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s and then defaming her by branding her a liar, a jury decided on Tuesday.
Amazing what fewer words can do. I didn’t copy the second paragraph in time, but it wasn’t a quote from Carroll. From the revised and improved version of the article.
“Today, the world finally knows the truth,” Carroll said in a statement. “This victory is not just for me but for every woman who has suffered because she was not believed.”
Victory. She won. He lost. Did anyone expect this outcome? I sure as hell didn’t. Not just because it was one woman vs. tRump, but because it was any woman vs. any man. But she won, and that should be the focus of the article. And win or lose there’s plenty to cover in an article about a court case because the average reader will have forgotten many of the details.
NBC did a much better job of covering the case as a case, not part of the never-ending horse race.
But the Reuters article hurries on to the one thing that no sane person should give a fuck about in a breaking news about a verdict. This was in the original and no one has realized it should be cut and put in a follow up article.
‘CORE PRO-TRUMP VOTERS ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE’
Really, I can’t imagine how much of a jackass you would have to be to sit down to write this article and decide to insert the opinions of the fans of the rancid pervert who lost the case. Despite Carroll’s victory, the reporters couldn’t resist some suggestions that the case that Carroll won might somehow turn out to be a win for the sentient pile of orange mold.
To be clear, the case was not – and honestly some of the commentariat need to read this repeatedly until it penetrates the bony layers around the galaxy brain – the case was not about the GOP, its voters, political polls or the 2024 election. The case was about whether the plaintiff, E. Jean Carroll was sexually abused, raped and defamed by the defendant, Donald J. Trump.
The jury found: Yes, no and yes.
I’m short on sleep so I can’t come up with any snark about off-topic comments right now.
But stay on topic, please.
