Hack Republican judge takes critical healthcare away from huge numbers of people
Republicans simply don’t think that non-affluent people should have access to healthcare, and their lawless representatives in the federal judiciary will continue to wage war on the Affordable Care Act:
Here is a list of the many, many preventive care treatments that insurers must cover cost-free under the ACA. Reed O’Connor just struck down the entire section of the law mandating this coverage. This is a gigantic blow to the ACA and U.S. health care. https://t.co/BChDAE4w6Z— Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_DC) March 30, 2023
I anticipated this decision in September when O’Connor first telegraphed it. It is nothing short of catastrophic to the U.S. health care system. Millions of Americans, including many pregnant women, will have to forgo basic care if it is upheld.https://t.co/eVpemaBN5c pic.twitter.com/5CuS45UaR6— Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_DC) March 30, 2023
I am beginning to suspect that overruling Roe v. Wade is not going to turn Republicans into social democrats!
The appointments clause argument is incredibly stupid and would make it impossible for the government to function if taken seriously, but of course the law isn’t the point here. O’Connor gives his hand away very quickly:
Paragon of civility and reasoned discourse Kyle Duncan recently assured us that “judges aren’t supposed to engage in some sort of cosmic fairness balancing, because we have elected officials to do such things,” so surely the 5th Circuit will quickly step in and stay this…sorry, I can’t even finish that sentence.
