As the new Prime Minister, Bibi Netanyahu has proposed judicial changes that would give the Knesset more control over the judiciary. It’s a complicated package, and one explanation is here. These changes have provoked strong popular opposition, with continuing protests involving hundreds of thousands of people. Update: I am not clear on what is being proposed, but some of our commenters are helping out.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant (or Galant) spoke out, saying that the changes endangered national security. Netanyahu fired him.

Protests are growing further in Israel.

The Israeli Consul General in New York has resigned to return to Israel and “join the fight for Israel’s future to ensure it remains a beacon of democracy and freedom in the world.”
