I always look forward to the S&S polls, and it’s that time of the decade again!

Directors poll

The complaints that because the #1 critic’s movie was directed by a woman that the list is therefore a product of WOKE CANCEL CULTURE you will have to find yourself, although I do not recommend it. I will observe that:

• There are many more than 100 great movies in history
• There is no “greatest film ever made”
• The intelligent way to look at the consensus of informed observers is to find stuff to watch, think about what greatness in a movie is, and argue in a way that is more constrictive because you’ve taken points #1 and #2 into account.

That said, I am OUTRAGED that Coppola’s greatest film is no longer on the critic’s list! Might have to send Tom Hagen to tell some stories about Roman history here.
