LGM Film Club, Part 324: The Rockford Files
It’s time to take a moment and discuss The Rockford Files. Stuart Margolin, who played a key supporting role in the series, died the other day and it made me think of how much I loved this show. Some of it is unquestionably nostalgia–it’s one of the shows my dad would watch religiously and I so I probably the saw the whole series multiple times when I was a kid. But this was also the glory days for detective shows. The down and out side of the 70s were perfect for detectives, hardly a romantic profession but always a good one for exploring in film and TV. I’m not saying The Rockford Files was the greatest show ever. But Jim Garner was just great and the surrounding cast was good too. Plus excellent cars and the right atmosphere. Just this intro is perfect.
