I Knew Him Before I Didn’t Know Him

Republicans candidates who try to wash off the tRump funk they once gleefully rolled in don’t mean to be funny, but they are. Thanks to Democrats who keep the receipts, there are lots of guffaws to be had.

A recent entrant in the I Knew Him Before I Didn’t Know Him sweepstakes is Yesli “The female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down” Vega, who is trying to take Abigail Spanberger’s seat.

Vega’s move to distance herself from Trump comes just weeks after the U.S. Department of Justice launched its investigation into the former president’s mishandling of classified documents. 

Take it from her own words: “President Trump has been the best President of my lifetime,” is what Yesli Vega told conservative radio host John Fredericks in June 2022, just months before Vega scraped her alleged appointment to the Trump administration that she – up until last month – wore with a badge of honor. 

There’s no way to tell how well this move will work for candidates before the polls close. But so far as I can tell the strategy is to flip off Dear Leader and the MAGAts who got them nominated in the first place and either hope that a vengeful horde of brainworm incubators will forgive and forget (el oh el!) or the vacuum they leave will be filled by Independent voters.

In Vega’s case she also has to deal with the fact that she’s an anti-abortion POS. And she’s the sort of candidate that most Republicans and not a few Independents would find it easy not to go to the polls for, IYKWIMAITYD.
