The plot against America
Donald Trump and his allies, including several lawyers acting in their capacities as lawyers, planned and executed a seditious riot against the Congress of the United States in order to among other things pressure the Supreme Court via the threat and then the reality of mob violence into ruling in Trump’s favor in a bunch of phony lawsuits designed to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election by illegal means:
Eastman was exchanging emails with pro-Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro, who backed Trump’s false claims of election fraud.
In one exchange, Chesebro said that the “odds of action before Jan. 6 will become more favorable if the justices start to fear that there will be ‘wild’ chaos on Jan. 6 unless they rule by then, either way.”
The emails came after the Supreme Court had already rejected two of Trump’s election fraud cases.
“I don’t have the personal insight that John has into the four justices likely to be most upset about what is happening in the various states, who might want to intervene, so I should make it clear that I don’t discount John’s estimate,” Chesebro said in an email, according to The Times.
“I think the odds of action before Jan. 6 will become more favorable if the justices start to fear that there will be ‘wild’ chaos on Jan. 6 unless they rule by then, either way,” Chesebro said. “Though that factor could go against us on the merits. Easiest way to quell chaos would be to rule against us — our side would accept that result as legitimate.”
I sense that very few people, even very few people who hate and fear Trump, have fully internalized yet exactly what happened between November 4, 2020 and January 6, 2021.
All these people, from Trump on down, should have been arrested and imprisoned long ago. Now it’s too late, although I’m well aware that Merrick Garland’s fans are still awaiting a judgment, shortly, on the Day of Judgment.
Meanwhile, the ever-egregious Jonathan Turley thinks Trump is being persecuted by the legal system because he has a bad personality:
What’s most terrible about all this is that the January 6 hearings are merely putting an exclamation mark on how there have been no real consequences for any of the ringleaders of what was a carefully planned plot to overthrow the government. One of the country’s two major parties has since become a fully vested accessory after the fact to that plot.
Again, merely stating the plain facts of the matter sounds impossibly hyperbolic, which is another way of saying that our political system is functioning in a de facto state of total denial.
