LGM Film Club, Part 267: You in Japan
Since I’m in Tokyo and have major jet lag, let’s watch a film about the nation.
It’s 1956. You are the U.S. military. Your troops are….probably not very well-informed about the world. And they have to spend time in Japan. So you have to teach them some basics. Well here’s the training film. A bit of this is about the geopolitical stuff around why the U.S. is even there. Then it’s about trying to get soldiers to at least have some clue and not offend the Japanese people.
Half wonder if my dad didn’t watch this film when he was in the Navy in the early 60s.
