3-Ingredient Nutella Brownies Recipe Review
When I saw this recipe for 3-ingredient brownies, I knew I’d have to try making them. I’m not a confident baker, and my fancy-schmancy mixer mostly just sits around looking pretty, not earning her keep at all. So I welcomed this opportunity to put her to work.
The brownies turned out well and they tasted good, but I have notes:
1.) You may want to increase the baking time a bit. I followed the recipe’s instructions, and the brownies were pretty underbaked. Yes, brownies should be underbaked, however, the center should not be liquid.
2.) The flavor–while certainly not unpleasant–lacks dimension. I couldn’t my finger on what was missing at first, but I definitely settled on the fact that they needed a richer chocolate flavor. It also need a bit more salt, something to contrast all the intense sweetness of the of the Nutella.
3.) You’d think that a brownie made of hazelnut spread would have at least a somewhat nutty flavor, however the nutty note was barely there. I think a vein of tahini or peanut butter would also also serve these brownies well. I also think a ganache and perhaps some sea salt would be a great way to finish them.
Overall, I think this recipe is a fantastic, fast way to get some brownies in the oven. I just think it needs some tweaking, and that that tweaking will almost certainly involve destroying the novelty of its very short ingredient list.
