You constantly defend right-wing public officials and attack left-wing ones, and for some reason people think of you as a right-winger
Among truly fierce competition, this might be the stupidest defense of their beloved Republican Party to yet emerge from the Greenwald ShakeShack Industrial Complex:
The assertion that censorship is not worth being worried about at all as long as it’s being carried out by the state is amazing stuff. The idea that Republicans don’t try to influence media companies is just as astoundingly dumb. And when Mister Trump, whom he does not support, cancelled an Amazon contract to punish the Washington Post for doing journalism about his administration, this was presumably fine because it was done by statute, at the state level.
Anyway, the fact that people consider Taibbi a reactionary hack is truly one of life’s great mysteries. I can’t possibly explain it.
…among other things, the Reactionary Contrarian Substack theory of free speech seems to be that it should have no freedom of association component at all:
Not only does Taibbi have a silly view of state force, his thinking that there should be rights or recourse in the face of private shunning ultimately means you think state force should be used to make other people associate with you. https://t.co/6CG8AS1yFZ— ConfirmedHat (@Popehat) April 8, 2022
