How’s Gov. Abbott’s plan to squat athwart the U.S.-Mexico border shouting “Own the libs!” going?

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday repealed his traffic-clogging immigration order that backed up commercial trucks at the U.S.-Mexico border, after a week of intensifying backlash and fears of deepening economic losses.

Huh.

Pressure was building on Abbott to retreat as gridlock on the border worsened and frustration mounted. The American Trucking Association called the inspections “wholly flawed, redundant and adding considerable weight on an already strained supply chain.”

Weird. I’m sure Greg’s plan had his bootlickers ROFLOL when he came up with it. How is it that everyone didn’t appreciate his great lib-owning prank?

Oh well, time for the Republican back up plan. Host some photo ops, scribble on some papers and claim to have solved the problem his dumb ass created.

Abbott, who is up for reelection in November and has made the border his top issue,

What, did you think it would be making sure the state’s energy grid was as prepared as possible for tornado season? That would involve work. Ew.

fully lifted the inspections after reaching agreements with neighboring Mexican states that he says outline new commitments to border security. The last one was signed Friday with the governor of Tamaulipas, who this week said the inspections were overzealous and created havoc.

When Abbott first ordered the inspections, he did not say lifting them was conditional on such arrangements with Mexico.

Planning beyond “Own the libs” is also work. Again, ew.

I haven’t heard what the truck drivers who had their cargo go rotten while waiting to have their brakes inspected to stop illegal immigration, but I will note that Texas’ governor’s mansion is at 1010 Colorado St, Austin, Tx.

Update 1: Several people have asked if Abbott’s border blocking stunt accomplished what he claimed it would.

No. Because Abbott gave the human and drug smugglers ample warning.

Troopers did not turn up any human or drug trafficking during the inspections, said Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw. He described it as unsurprising, saying cartels knew the inspections were taking place.

Update 2: Several people have asked if Abbott has the power to sign agreements with other nations.

No. But creating an agreement isn’t the point. Surely everyone remembers how that orange asshole was always gathering his lackeys and a few photographers to watch while he signed EOs and proclamations and the backs of cocktail napkins and then issuing 500 press releases and as many tweets about it. Same thing.
