Josh Hawley, the som of a marriage between Joe McCarthy and a Costco bucket of Axe hair gel, continues to tell mendacious lies about Biden’s first Supreme Court nominee. How dumb is this argument? So dumb that Andrew McCarthy can destroy it. Ouch! But it says something that the Republican Party circa 2022 is a little too nutty for one of the Obama era’s more notable conspiracy cranks.

Anyway, Hawley is many things, almost all of them bad, but he’s not dumb — he knows perfectly well he’s lying about Jackson. But a contemporary Republican simply cannot accept anything about the opposition as legitimate, which is also how you end up supporting coups.
