I know I’ve discussed this here before, and I know that positive reassessment of of past works is something that is hardly exclusive to the field of art, but I do think it’s an interesting phenomenon.

I make a piece of art, I dig it while I’m making it, then, by the time I’ve finished I’ve fallen out of love.

I’m never quite sure why this happens. Sometimes I think I just get tired of looking at something. Sometimes I decide that it isn’t up to my standards, not special enough somehow. Too cliched or mundane or lacking my signature attention detail or whimsy. In any case, it’s immensely frustrating to put a ton of work into something you end up deeming inferior. So I’m always thrilled when I find myself falling back in back in love with a piece, or at the very least, deeming it worthy.

Here are a few pieces I made and ended up appreciating, if not outright loving.

“I’ve Seen Everything”
“In Exile” In this piece, I like to imagine the model is a good young queen, on the run from the evil people who’ve chased her off her throne. She hides in the forest and wears antlers and paper butterflies to disguise herself.
“Swan Over Crow”
“Georgie’s World” is a fanfic of sorts–an alternate world where “It’s” Georgie never meets Pennywise, and uses his imagination make the paper boat into something so much more.
