A false headline can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get out of the stall
This is a very serious error from Reuters, given the stakes:
What happened? Well, Japanese pharma company IS conducting a phase III human trial of Ivermectin as a Covid treatment. We've known that for months. And today, Kowa published a press release claiming Ivermectin has an "antiviral effect" against Omicron. pic.twitter.com/c7ECgG2tXO— Arieh Kovler (@ariehkovler) January 31, 2022
Lots of stuff has a antiviral effect in a test tube but doesn't help fight viral disease in humans, so while it was disappointing that Ivermectin doesn't help with Covid, it wasn't very surprising.— Arieh Kovler (@ariehkovler) January 31, 2022
A respected news agency, faced with a story like "study shows Ivermectin works against Covid!" should take extra care to make sure they've got the story right. Reuters failed.— Arieh Kovler (@ariehkovler) January 31, 2022
By the time you’ve corrected a story like this, it’s too late for it not to be ammunition for disinformation campaigns:
At least Rogan deleted it; on Fox I assume it will continue to live on.
