Last week Scott and I had the opportunity to speak with Amanda Marcotte as part of our Oral History of the Blogosphere series. Amanda founded the blog Mouse Words before moving on to Pandagon, one of the mainstays of the Old Blogosphere. One of the most interesting bits from the wide-ranging discussion was Amanda’s comparison of the Old Blogosphere to the Early Punk scene, with its close engagement between artist and fandom and endless fragmentation. This led to some noodling about authenticity and “selling out,” and to some fascinating stories about the minor controversies which would seemingly take over the entire blogosphere in the old days.
