Hearst

On Monday and Tuesday, PBS has a new episode of American Experience on William Randolph Hearst. I am among the talking heads. It was pretty exciting. I even got hairspray, which I did not think was possible at this point in my life!

Now, I want to be clear–I know next to nothing about William Randolph Hearst. In fact, I had to read the David Nasaw biography of Hearst before I did the interview just to get the basics. So I asked after the interview why I was chosen. I was told that they had people who could talk about the glamour and glitz, the newspapers and the wealth. What they needed was someone to remind everyone about the horrible things of the late 19th and early 20th century.

I’m your man for that!

Anyway, it was cool to be involved in something like this. American Experience always does good work and I look forward to watching all the parts that don’t involve me. It’s going to be weird to see myself on TV. Especially without my glasses, which felt like I was losing my protection from kryptonite. But they aren’t good for the cameras.
