“Selling himself as an untainted outsider challenging a failing and mistrusted political establishment” is indeed a fair if trite description of how Trump and Obama generally framed their campaigns. It also describes George W. Bush, Clinton, Carter, Nixon, etc. etc. etc. and basically every political campaign ever run by a non-incumbent. But whether your reflexive anti-anti Trumpism comes from the center right or the “left” LOL, total ignorance (whether real or feigned) about anything that happened in American politics before 2008, not to mention much of what happened afterward, is as useful as Murc’s Law itself.
