James Loewen, RIP
No scholar has done more to challenge conventional narratives of history and open people’s eyes to alternative visions of the past outside of lauding the rich and white and famous since Howard Zinn. Lies My Teacher Told Me is his most famous book, but he was a productive scholar before that and an active popularizer after that. He was a real giant. I never had any interaction with him so I don’t have anything personal to state except that I deeply respected his life project and to some extent have tried to emulate it.
