So Congress passed a bill that will provide a lot of useful funding and create some good jobs for working people. I wonder what the New Kind of Economically Populist Republican Josh Hawley has to say about it:

Tweeting out collages of titles of randomly selected columns written by National Review interns, now that’s what I call cutting-edge politics, laser-focused on the material needs of the working class!

Not only that, but this bill threatens America’s most precious resource of all, the federal balance sheet!

It’s full of pork-barrel spending. Like building highways in Canada. That’s in this bill. Researching salmon and their mating habits. That’s in this bill,” Hawley said. “It’s unbelievable what is in this piece of legislation. It is a far-left bill. It is full of pork-barrel spending and pork-barrel giveaways, and I just can’t support it.”

The “highways in Canada” to which Hawley refers to the construction and improvement of roadways connecting Alaska with our neighbor to the north. The “researching salmon” is in reference to the Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Fund, which aims to preserve and protect West Coast salmon and steelhead as part of the local ecosystem.

Droning on about “pork-barrel spending” and telling howlingly obvious lies about innocuous provisions of spending bills, what an incredibly fresh approach to politics! Definitely not something that had been bog-standard Republican orthodoxy for literally decades!

You know what’s new and interesting about Josh Hawley? Absolutely nothing. He’s a younger and more ambitious Mike Rounds. People on the ostensible “left” who fawn over him are either the most gullible or most dishonest people on Earth, and there’s no third option.
