LGM Film Club, Part 176: Brutalism: A Hope Dashed
The brutalist architect Gottfried Böhm died the other day. The way his Pilgrimage Church dominates the town of Neviges, Germany to me is just an atrocity.
But I know there are people out there who really respect brutalism. So I decided tonight’s film would be the 2019 documentary Brutalism: A Hope Dashed. It’s only 10 minutes and features the British brutalist Owen Luder distressed about what happened to his buildings, as well as commentary from a critic and a photographer. It’s worth your time. The sound is a bit low so you may need to turn it up.
