America’s most ridiculous senator takes us on an historical acid trip
Dianne Feinstein would like you young whippersnappers to know that American democracy is just fine. Why, when she worked with John Kern and Woodrow Wilson to pass the Ice Truck Regulation Act of 1913, she had support from both sides of the aisle!
Feinstein on the filibuster: “I’m giving it thought… I managed to pass the first assault weapons bill. So it hasn’t been an impediment, that I have seen. Now somebody, for their bill, may find different.”
Is democracy in jeopardy? “No. No. I know jeopardy from no jeopardy.”— Andrew Solender (@AndrewSolender) June 23, 2021
It’s even more ridiculous than it is on its face when you remember that:
- The Federal Assault Weapons Ban passed with a 52-48 vote
- It was allowed to expire in 2004 and there is a zero percent chance of it being restored under current rules
So even her cherry-picked random anecdote of a glorious bipartsian compromise is a close, mostly party-line vote that could not happen under the current norms! Just amazing stuff. Elite Democrats who don’t know when to quit are the best friends Republican enemies of democracy have ever had.
