Not wearing masks outside (in most circumstances) is fine. Wearing masks outside is also fine if you want to.

Those CDC guidelines, they do not mean what Glenn seems to think they mean:

To state the obvious, it doesn’t “violate” CDC guidelines to wear a mask outside. The CDC has said that you can go without a mask outside (in most circumstances) with relatively minimal risk, not that it’s bad or harmful to wear one. If you don’t want to wear a mask outside and aren’t planning to talk to someone who isn’t vaccinated in close proximity or spending a lot of time in a crowd of strangers where you can’t social distance — that vast majority of outdoor interactions — it’s fine! I don’t believe in eleven-dimensional chess Straussian lies where you like to try to manipulate the population into better behavior. But by the same token, if you want to keep wearing a mask outside for whatever reason, also fine! (Personally, I wear a mask when I’m within a block of the busy streets around my apartment and then take it off when walking around side streets where I can virtually always stay outside 10 feet of people and never have more than a fleeting interaction. It would probably be safe to skip even the first step now that I’m fully vaccinated but if it makes people feel less anxious there’s also zero cost to me so who cares.) This bizarre identity politics obsession with people wearing masks outside is silly.

What does violate CDC guidelines is not wearing a mask among strangers indoors. But Glenn would never criticize, say, Ron DeSantis’s preemption of local mask mandates because he affirmatively supports DeSantis’s libertarian nihilism: it owns thu libs, which has long since been the only criterion by which he evaluates public officials.

As for whether Biden briefly wears a mask outside in circumstances where it would be relatively safe not to, who could possibly give a shit? I mean, really.
