LGM Film Club, Part 159: Morocco
Last night, I watched Josef von Sternberg’s 1930 film Morocco, which is of cousre famous for Marlene Dietrich’s epic drag scene. The film itself is mostly OK, largely consisting of Dietrich acting circles around a very wooden Gary Cooper and Adolphe Menjou doing his easy elite charm thing effectively. The ending is ridiculous and the film loves its Orientalism. But that Dietrich scene is one of the most important in film history. Here’s the film trailer.
