McCarthy gives Greene total pass
Authoritarian dunce Kevin McCarthy, understandably, thinks there should be no consequences for his say-the-quiet-parts-loud fellow traveler:
The top House Republican refused on Wednesday to punish Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene for spreading false and bigoted conspiracy theories and endorsing political violence against Democrats, condemning the Georgia freshman’s previous comments but declining to take away her posts on influential congressional committees.
After days of public silence and private agonizing over what to do about Ms. Greene — who has endorsed the executions of top Democrats, suggested that school shootings were staged and said that a space laser controlled by Jewish financiers started a wildfire — the minority leader, Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, issued a tortured statement that harshly denounced her past statements but then argued that she should face no consequences for them.
As a bonus, McCarthy’s statement is such a definitive example of whataboutism that he can always have a job writing the Political Playbook or guest blogging at Glenn Greenwald’s ShakeShack if he gets tired of his current job. Tailgunner Kevin HAS A LIST:
“While Democrats pursue a resolution on Congresswoman Greene, they continue to do nothing about Democrats serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee who have spread anti-Semitic tropes, Democrats on the House Intelligence and Homeland Security Committee compromised by Chinese spies, or the Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee who advocated for violence against public servants.
Make sure not to look into any of those charges too carefully!
