A colleague suggested the “Remember My Forgotten Man” song and dance sequence from Gold Diggers of 1933 as a LGM Film Club entry. It’s so great and powerful, though for as much as I like Joan Blondell, I don’t think much of her as a singer. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s a bit on the horrors of World War I and how it destroyed men and therefore their women too.

\To the extent that people still talk about the Gold Diggers series today, what gets somewhat lost behind the big stage productions is the politics. These are deeply political movies that really do represent the struggles of the working class in the 1930s. Just with big Busby Berkeley song and dance productions. This is great stuff.
