MOBILE, AL- AUGUST 21: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump greets supporters after his rally at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on August 21, 2015 in Mobile, Alabama. The Trump campaign moved tonight’s rally to a larger stadium to accommodate demand. (Photo by Mark Wallheiser/Getty Images)

Yesterday, I had reason to go out to Cape Cod for the day. The reason of course was that there was a grave I wanted to see out there, not that I am going to tell you who it is before I write it up (and don’t worry, I don’t use grave donations for day trips; all your donations are used in the most professional and responsible way possible for graves I could not see otherwise). Now, as those of you who drive out to the Cape know, when you cross the Bourne Bridge and are officially on Cape Cod, you pass this enormous and pretty poorly designed roundabout that always slows down traffic, even on an offseason Sunday.

So I get to the roundabout. And there’s a pretty sizable fascist rally for Trump. Maybe 50-75 people in the parking lot of the Dunkin’ Donuts located there (for those New Englanders worried that they’ve gone a whole mile without the opportunity to stop at one) with their Trump signs, their Sleepy Joe Biden signs, their Stolen Election signs, etc. What’s worse is the number of people honking to them in support.

It’s hard to know what to do with this when you see it. It’s not surprising of course. We should expect to see this type of thing and no doubt many of you have. It’s just….so sad. And scary.

The thing about these people is that it doesn’t matter to them whether Trump “won” or lost. It’s not about election fairness, whatever that means to them. It’s that Democrats have no legitimacy and simply should not be allowed to govern. And now that has moved from the fringes of society to a mainstream position. Greg Sargent has an overview of this fact with a lot of links. It’s just a depressing time, despite the fact that Biden at least clearly did defeat Donald Trump last month.

….Also, the average age of those protestors had to be about 67. I know people get cranky when a lot of this fascism gets chalked up to Boomers, but the visual evidence at least remains pretty strong on the point.
