Another election open thread: Preparing for the worst – Any tips?

I find myself in an odd position – silence muck-brains – tonight. I know I need to prepare for the worst. But for once, I just can’t force my brain into disaster prep mode.

I’m not sure I’m a pessimist, but I find optimism uncomfortable. Expecting good things to happen comes with the risk that that it won’t happen, so it is better to beat fate to the punch and assume it won’t. So normally, I’m really good at worst case scenarios. Short-term, long-term, more or less likely. I might not be able to stop the bad thing from happening, but at least I’ll have a plan.

But at least four more years of this shit? My mind rebels. So, if you have any advice for how to prepare for the worst, please drop them in the comments.
