The 2014 Senate elections may end up being the ones that broke American democracy, allowing Republicans to push the Supreme Court right although a vacancy occurred early in an election year. One politician who tried to warn people about the stakes of the elections was Democratic Colorado Senate candidate Mark Udall, who repeatedly warned that replacement-level Republican hack Cory Gardner would be a rubber stamp vote for Republican judges who want to overrule Roe and automatic vote against Democratic judges who want to uphold it. As a reward for trying to mobilize voters around the material consequences of the 2014 midterm, he was rewarded with….open and relentless mockery from the media:

A local reporter literally accused him of setting the race “in a gynecologist’s office” and called him “Mark Uterus” during the a debate. I love legitimate thee-yater objective journalism!

Anyway, Gardner — who won by fewer than 40,000 votes, which probably wouldn’t have happened had the media not collectively decided to become his cheering section because his opponent had the temerity to forcefully champion reproductive rights — is about to vote to ensure that Roe v. Wade is overruled, among many other horrible things. But none of the reporters who made fun of him is about to become a poor woman in rural Alabama so the important thing is that we got a good laugh out of it.
