Outflanked XIX: The Air Siren, Not a Dog Whistle Outflankening
On the question of the future of the GOP, Tom Cotton (Harvard B.A., J.D) would seem to indicate that it will be very Trumpy indeed:
Sen. Tom Cotton on #DCstatehood: “Would you trust Mayor Bowser to keep Washington safe if she were given the powers of a governor? Would you trust Marion Barry?” pic.twitter.com/e2PDM5IySQ— The Hill (@thehill) June 25, 2020
It seems worth interjecting here that Tom Cotton is a full-throated supporter of Donald Trump as President of the United States.
of course the funny thing is cotton is an unconditional supporter of Trump, who is marion barry if stripped of every single redeeming quality— b-boy bouiebaisse (@jbouie) June 25, 2020
The speech does not get any less racist from there:
COTTON: “They want to make Washington a state to rig the rules of our democracy and try to give the democratic party permanent power. But in doing so, the Democrats are committing an act of historical vandalism as grotesque as those committed by jacobin mobs roaming our streets.”— Frank Thorp V (@frankthorp) June 25, 2020
COTTON on #DCStatehood: “Yes, Wyoming is smaller than Washington by population, but it has three times as many workers in mining, logging and construction, and ten times as many workers in manufacturing. In other words, Wyoming is a well-rounded working-class state.”— Frank Thorp V (@frankthorp) June 25, 2020
In addition to Harvard Boy here arguing that a predominantly Black city doesn’t merit representation because its citizens are insufficiently butch for his liking, this is just baldly stupid — what do cities that do have electoral representation have to do with anything? But Cotton has always been like this.
Hilariously, Greenwald chose this very day to drop an interminable “should the left form an alliance with the imaginary Bold Populism of Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson and Josh Hawley, whom I do not support” thigh-rubber. Perfect!
