Bored at Home? Want to Research Your City’s Past?
Historians know the value of Sanborn maps, those amazing fire insurance maps that mapped cities over time. But they are useful to lots of people. I have a friend who runs an environmental mediation business and these maps are critical to finding out just what potentially polluting businesses were where in the past, for instance. Anyway, these have been going digitized. They are a great resource and this is big news for those of you who like to play around on the internet, which is all of you since you are here.
We are happy to share that post-1900 public domain Sanborn maps for 25 more states are now online! Check it out this weekend!
