Let It Go (Again)
Even before Covid-19 became a deterrent, hub and I pledged to each other to start watching movies with regularity together. So we have happily been catching up on a lot of movies we’ve been wanting to see. These days, it just help to pass the time.
- Frozen 2 was lovely. I thought the story was stronger this time and the music was just as good. The animation was–if possible–even lovelier, showcasing a magical Disney autumn and even more showy snow and ice effects. The water horse and ice sculptures will take your breath away. Plus, every time you see the water horse you can imagine my son teasing me about the “the SEA PONY!! SEA PONY! SEA PONY!” It was poignant and funny and a paean to sisterly love. I loved it.
- The Good Liar was good…uh…fine. I think it gets by with being a somewhat mediocre film because it stars Helen Mirren and Ian McKellan.
- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Tarantino let me down this time. This sort of…alternate history film had MAJOR pacing problems and I was put off by the narration, which came and went in the weirdest, most awkward way. Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie (so charming as Sharon Tate) are *very* good actors, but, come on, Tarantino wasn’t telling me anything I didn’t already know there.
Y’all already saw my review of The Lighthouse. Long story short, I thought it was weird and I DUG IT because it is very much MY SCENE.
I hope you all are staying sane and healthy.
