It’s Unanimous
Every Democratic senator voted to convict Trump:
Voting whether or not to remove a sitting President has been a truly difficult decision, and after listening to the arguments presented by both sides, I have reached my conclusion reluctantly. My full statement: pic.twitter.com/yIgy6Qf5JZ— Senator Joe Manchin (@Sen_JoeManchin) February 5, 2020
Honestly, I’m obviously not a fan per se but for a senator representing a state Trump won by 40 points, you could to a lot worse than Manchin. (Even more important than this, he was absolutely rock-solid on ACA repeal.) In contemporary America, every Democratic candidate for national office is going to be materially and infinitely better than any Republican opponent.
Rather than responding to the same comment several several times, let me also add in re: Romney that there was never any chance impeachment was going to result in Trump being removed from office. So what matters is the politics, and Romney just made the politics worse for Trump (not to mention Trump’s pathetic blue state lickspittles Collins and Gardner): the media loves a good crossing-party-lines story. This is a good thing, period. As a commenter notes, an even better example than Lamar! is Mike Lee, who is part the same context where the GOP is a lot more popular than Trump, is beloved as a Principled Maverick by “reformicon” types, and has backed Trump to the absolute hilt. So good for Mittens on this one.
