Good thing Studio 54 had a very strict no-cocaine policy
Authoritarianism tends to be very popular among idiots, aka “the base.”
It’s a huge advantage in many situations to be a total sociopath, who is completely unconstrained by social norms, and will therefore say or do anything to get ahead.
Example: A large percent of legal contracts are simply not enforceable as a practical matter, because it isn’t worth it to take the breaching party to court. So if you’re a sociopath you just break any contract of that sort.
Society functions to the extent it does because very few people are actually sociopaths. But for obvious reasons a greatly disproportionate number of “successful” people will be.
