Iran has responded to the killing of Qassim Suleimani by launching ballistic missile strikes against US forces at two bases in Iraq. The attack is notable in that the Iranians have launched the missiles from their own territory (rather than using proxies), have openly declared responsibility for the attack, and have used weapons (ballistic missiles rather than rockets) that the US and others will probably see as escalatory.
No idea what happens next, but if the US responds it will probably be with attacks directly against Iranian ballistic missile launch sites. Mobile ballistic missile sites are notoriously difficult to find (although technology has improved since 1991), and as such the attacks may not satisfy Trump. I would like to think that the Iranian attacks would be the end of it, but at this point it’s rather a struggle for me to make that call.
My advice is to drink. Fuck Drynuary; Drynuary is only ever a problem, never a solution. Let this serve as an open thread for discussion of this stupid fucking war that our idiot President has decided to thrust upon us.
