The Great Circle Jerk Of the American Meritocracy
I will have more thoughts about this later today, but here’s an amuse bouche:
So that time I pointed out that @amychua‘s op-ed in defense of Kavanaugh should be read with an understanding that her daughter was going to get a clerkship with Kavanaugh and all the Chua defenders said that her daughter wasn’t applying and I said WAIT A YEAR… I was right? https://t.co/SO1KOVlRZm— Elie Mystal (@ElieNYC) June 10, 2019
I mean, you might have thought that, say, Alito and O’Kavanaugh might have cut a deal to at least put the Chua-Rubenfield Special Snowflake in the former’s chambers to make it a little less obvious. But on the other hand why not send the message directly? In Donald Trump’s America, why be subtle?
Anyway, let us never forget the great sacrifice of having to get a clerkship from a different Article III judge before getting the most prestigious clerkship at all from the nominee she sucked up to during the nomination:
Here’s my original piece about Chua’s op-ed, written before the attempted rape allegations, by the way. It holds up pretty well, especially me calling her out for bemoaning how her daughter will be out of a job if Kav is confirmed. Such obvious BS.https://t.co/VKwTx9GLMm— Elie Mystal (@ElieNYC) June 10, 2019
