“You’ve got to be a member, before they let you in.” (Update)
A lot of the debate about whether Assange should face prosecution under the Espionage Act seems to hinge on whether he’s a journalist. If he is, he’s covered by the protections the U.S. affords journalists. At least in theory. For now anyway.
But at any rate, if he is a journalist then it would be a blow to the 1st Amendment if he falls into a certain pair of small orange paws.
If he’s not a journalist, too bad so sad.
Question for the group: What’s a journalist?
Update: In the comments several people have spotted the distinction that makes the difference. :-) However, several people seem to think that journalism = reporting on politics. :-(
