Clarence Thomas Yells At Clouds, And Other News From the War on Roe v. Wade
Shorter Supreme Court Republicans: “We will uphold an undue burden on a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion, but will leave any overruling of Roe until after 2020.”
Shorter Clarence Thomas: “People who think Griswold v. CT was correctly decided are the real racists.”
Verbatim Ruth Bader Ginsburg: “JUSTICE THOMAS’ footnote, displays more heat than light. The note overlooks many things: “This Court reviews judgments, not statements in opinions”; a woman who exercises her constitutionally protected right to terminate a pregnancy is not a “mother”; the cost of, and trauma potentially induced by, a post-procedure requirement may well constitute an undue burden.
Critical context: as of Friday, there will be no abortion clinics open in the state of Missouri. If Whole Woman’s Health is no longer good law, Roe is effectively dead — and there are almost certainly 5 votes never to apply it until it’s inevitably overuled.
