Reactionary centrism in one sentence

I found Schumer’s tweet and Stephens’ column via Bari Weiss’s twitter feed, which I assume will soon be filled with lamentations regarding Steve Bannon’s dis-invitation from the New Yorker festival.  (Weiss will probably remind us that the best remedy for Nazi rhetoric is anti-Nazi rhetoric, which is why Hitler was defeated by speeches.)

Anyway, Stephens’ column is a veritable masterpiece of both siderism, as illustrated by this sentence:

Those ideas, about human liberty, dignity and possibility, lie beyond the reach of President Trump to traduce, or Jeff Sessions to betray, or any English department in the country to deconstruct.

That Bari Weiss loves this sort of reactionary centrist garbage is only to be expected, but Chuck Schumer?  Yikes.
