Another day, another policy directive via Fox News
Last night was just another normal evening with the DOPUS issuing directions to the Department of State based on some white supremacist conspiracy gabble he heard on TV. Even if Pompeo ignores his boss, Dolt 45 has given claims of white genocide in South Africa a legitimacy that they wouldn’t have if we didn’t have a dumb, malevolent and deeply bigoted pile of orange peels in the White House.
Also, I don’t imagine this will do much for US/SA relations.
But this is our future. An outlet like Fox will broadcasts some dumbshit that their #1 Fan will consume and regurgitate because he’s just smart enough to repeat what he heard on the TV. Maybe it will become sort of policy directive, maybe it will just get blasted out on Twitter and encourage rank and file Republicans to do their worst. Or it will emerge, mangled almost to the point of unintelligibly in a public appearance or interview. At any rate, constant repetition will quickly make it boring, so Fox will have to come up with something new, and that means worse. [Update: It probably goes without saying, but Fox is also competing with dodgier sources like far right blogs and Reddit 4 Nazis.]
In the meantime, some very serious pundits will decide that Fox should be taken seriously because it clearly has the spray-painted fleshy lumps on either side of the Twitterer-in-Chief’s head. Others will lower their standards because they believe that all they have to do is be best is to be better than the worst.
What’s the final stage? It could be a White House/Fox News melding that involves Fox News staff does most of the work of running the country while you-know-who rants into a camera. There’s no way the eels who currently control Congress will object. And at least one person would be happy.
[Update II: South Africa has responded. The linked article also gives a good summary of what’s really happening in South Africa.]
