I have written over and over and over again about the need to be aware of who is making your clothing and being an active participant in their fight for justice. You have to actually see these people for this to spark a connection. That’s why I am thankful for this photo essay on Bangladeshi sweatshop workers.

Read it and then start pressuring your politicians to do something to control the conditions in which American corporations outsource their production. We already control imports in all sorts of ways. This is a matter of political will, not an impossibility. A Corporate Accountability Act, holding companies legally responsible for the conditions in their supply chains, should be a central progressive demand. Otherwise, more workers will die.
