Charli’s Village
Long-term readers of LGM will remember Charli Carpenter, who wrote for the blog a few years ago and periodically makes new contributions. About a month ago, Charli was admitted to the hospital for severe abdominal pain. The doctors found a mass the sizeof an orange blocking her intestine, and decided to remove it in order to find out what it was.
The obstruction turned out to be a tumor. A week after surgery, Charli was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a systemic cancer of the immune system. In order to ensure that the cancer is completely gone, she must undergo an intensive six month regimen of chemotherapy.
Her type of chemo is going to be one of the most aggressive and therefore one of the hardest kinds to deal with. The positive news is that her odds are extremely good, with a 97% success rate of this treatment in Charli’s demographic. Fortunately Charli has access to the best, fastest treatment. The downside is that it is very expensive.
Those who know her appreciate how much of a fighter Charli is. And no one should have to go through this fight alone. We don’t want her to feel overwhelmed with these new (and steep) medical payments. Please consider donating to help with the next six months of chemotherapy, as well as the ancillary costs associated with aggressive medical treatment.
