One striking thing about Paul Ryan’s decision, noted below, to focus on congressional races is that he’s still endorsing Donald Trump. He’s not saying that Trump is unacceptable despite being a ludicrously unqualified white nationalist misogynist — he’s just making a judgment that Trump can’t win. Ryan “focusing” on congressional races is not different than him deciding that it’s time to give up on the Illinois and Wisconsin Senate races. But since all evidence suggests that there’s nothing Ryan can do to shed his wholly unearned media rep for bring a Man of Great Seriousity, I’m sure he will receive enormous credit for this great act of principle.
