I can’t say I’m surprised that Gay Talese’s new New Yorker-excerpted book did not involve such Old Journalism activities as “making some minimal effort to find out if the things you’re reporting as fact actually happened.” He did have the integretude to disavow it for a few hours, and I’m sure he still considers himself a better writer than any mere woman in any case.
