With a combination of an, er, historically great defense and a good run of fortune in a series of close games, the Broncos shattered all previous standards for poor quarterback play from the quarterback position for a championship team. Is this repeatable? Theoretically, I suppose, although the odds are very much not in your favor. But we might be about to get a fair test of the proposition. Admittedly, Elway is strongly hinting that he’s not done — whether this is because he has a good starting option or whether he wants to try to avoid having his office firebombed is unclear. But I say, you won a Super Bowl with terrible QB play, so what’s the fun in not trying to do it again?
