So You’ve Been Asked to Design a Logo for a Hardcore Kink Site

Recently I was approached by a man wanting me to do some design work for him. Commissions come pretty few and far between for me so I was excited to ask him what he had in mind, exactly. Well. It turns out he wanted to me to create a logo for some sort of kink site. I’m not going to write the name here, but it has the word “collar” in it. I thought the name was odd, but not flag-raising. Remember, most people know me through my work at deviantArt. DEVIANT. ART. So long story short, I typed the url in the address bar and was taken to a site where…well, let’s just put it this way: I was frantically clicking away before the page could even finish loading. Ever been to a page like that? Yeah, it was one of those.

I should quickly add that the person who offered me the work was extraordinarily friendly and professional; just could could not have been nicer. It’s just not every day that someone asks you to design something for a site of that nature and now it’s gotten me thinking about my art. What, exactly, was it about my art that made him think I was the best person for the job? I mean there’s subtext and then there’s subtext.
